MONROE CITY
2017 MUNICIPAL ELECTION NEWS
2017 Election - The City of Monroe will hold an all “Vote by Mail” Municipal Election for the following offices:
* Mayor - 4-year term.
* Two (2) City Council Seats - 4-year term.
Those elected to fill the open positions will take office January, 2018.
 
Important Election Dates
* Ballots will be mailed out 21 days prior to the election.
* Primary Election Day (if necessary) - August 15, 2017.
* General Election Day - November 7, 2017.
 
Candidates - If you are interested in filing as a candidate in the election, a Declaration of Candidacy form must be filed in person with the City Recorder at the City Office during the following filing period:
* JUNE 1, 2017 to June 7, 2017. 
* 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Candidates for Municipal Office must meet the following requirements:
1. Be a United States Citizen at the time of filing.
2. Be at least 18 years of age at the time of filing.
3. Be a registered voter in the municipality.
4. Be a resident of the municipality for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election. 
5. Any mentally incompetent person, or any person convicted of a felony, or any person convicted of treason or a crime against the elective franchise may not hold office in this state until the right to vote or hold elective office is restored as provided by statute.
Voter Registration - Have you moved to Monroe in the past year? Have you changed your name? If so, have you updated your voter registration?  The last day to register at the County offices and vote in the Primary is August 8th. The last day to register online and vote in the Primary is also August 8th.       
 
Where to Vote - All voting for the 2017 Municipal Election will be conducted as “Vote by mail.”

MONROE CITY
   2017 ELECTION  - PUBLIC NOTICE

Public notice is hereby given that the date for persons wishing to file as candidates for the office of Mayor or Monroe City Councilmember are between June 1, 2017 and June 7, 2017.  Filing deadline is June 7, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications of a candidate for the office of Mayor or City Councilmember are:
(1) Be a United States citizen at time of filing
(2) Be at least 18 years old at the time of the next municipal election
    (3) Be a legal resident of Monroe City for a period of 365 consecutive days immediately
      preceding the date of the election.
(4) Be a registered voter of Monroe City
(5) In accordance with Utah Constitution Article IV, Section 6, any mentally incompetent person, any person convicted of a felony, or any person convicted of treason or a crime against the elective franchise may not hold office in this state until the right to hold elective office is restored under Section 20A-2-101-5.

Monroe City residents will be electing a Mayor and two Councilmembers to serve four year terms at the general municipal election on November 7, 2017. The Primary Election date is Tuesday, August 15, 2017 (if needed).

Each person wishing to become a candidate for a non-partisan municipal office shall file a declaration of candidacy form or nomination petition in person with the Monroe City Recorder at 10 North Main Street, Monroe, during regular business hours and not later than 5:00 p.m. June 7, 2017.  There is no filing fee.

ANNEXATION PUBLIC HEARING

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
 
Monroe City hereby gives notice that on September 13, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. at the Monroe City Hall,
10 North Main, Monroe, Utah the Monroe City Council will hold a public hearing concerning the
proposed annexation of real property owned by Jared Peterson and Donald and Val Jean Holgate
Family Trust within the area defined as the Monroe City Annexation Policy build out area. The
Peterson property is located at approximately 250 East 500 North and the Holgate property is
located at approximately 200 East 492 North. The complete legal description and the plat relating
to the proposed annexation is available for review at the office of the City Recorder, 10 North Main,
Monroe, Utah.
 
The city council will consider adoption of Ordinance 9-01-2016, (Peterson/Holgate Annexation).

2016 24th of July Celebration

We’ve already had people asking about when our Pioneer Day

Celebration will be held seeing as the 24th falls on Sunday.

We have decided to have the barbeque on Friday July 22nd, and

our normal celebration on Saturday the 23rd. Hope this works for

everyone. More information will be coming as we get closer to the date.
